Referendum Update: July Recap and Looking Ahead!

Big things are happening with our referendum projects, and August has brought some exciting progress, especially at the Central Fieldhouse. Now that the prep work is done, crews are diving into the next phase of construction. Our full-time site superintendent from CG Schmidt is there every day, keeping things running smoothly, coordinating contractors, and making sure safety stays a top priority. Inside, the old HVAC ducts have been removed, the concrete in the future wood floor area is almost cleared, and the trophy cases and hallways have been packed up. HVAC, electrical and steel teams are ready to get started, and fans and temporary ventilation are being added to help with air flow and keep everything on schedule.

Hale has a brand new diving board just in time for practices to start. Additionally, roofing projects are wrapping up. Hale, Horace Mann, and Pershing are finished, and Central’s roof is nearly there. The section above the West Allis Central administration offices is done, with only a few finishing touches left. Work is expected to wrap up by the end of the month!

Over at West Milwaukee, we’re finalizing the plans and budget for new chillers and boilers. Work is expected to take place over the winter and spring. At Dottke, we’ve selected a contractor for the HVAC updates in the gym ceiling, with work planned for late fall.

We’re also looking ahead. This fall, we’ll be doing the design and planning for our 2026 projects, which include updates at Frank Lloyd Wright, Walker, Nathan Hale, Irving, and more, along with roofing work, pool improvements, and safety upgrades.

As students and staff return, you will still see construction happening. We’ve worked with CG Schmidt to block off work areas with cones, barriers, and signage, but we need everyone’s help in keeping these zones safe. Please avoid entering construction areas (even if you’re curious- we will keep providing weekly and monthly updates- follow us on social media!) so work can stay on track and learning can continue without disruption. We truly appreciate everyone’s patience and flexibility as we work to make our schools even better for our students and community.

Every project brings us one step closer to the promise we made with this referendum - to create safe, functional, and welcoming spaces for all.
